The Art of Storytelling:

Storytellers, Resources, Associations

Oral storytelling is an ancient art that remains alive to this day. Before the written word, the only way to pass on a culture’s history was to tell the people’s stories to the younger generation. Today storytelling festivals delight people of all ages throughout the world.

So what is storytelling?

The dictionary defines a storyteller as one who tells stories. Today's storytellers, much like their historical counterparts, tell single stories or a series of stories that can be philosophical, truthful or fictitious. Their resources include other storytellers, associations, workshops and schools.

Dennis Dewey
Dennis Dewey tells biblical stories. He's held storytelling seminars and given performances in the United States, Canada, Europe, New Zealand, Australia, Korea and Israel. Dewey teaches how to create stories from biblical texts. One of his goals is to give today's people an appreciation of oral spirituality. His web site includes storytelling seminars and workshops, resources and a link to the site of the Network of Biblical Storytellers. The page devoted to his fees suggests a budget to fund a Dennis Dewey event and encourages ministries to let Dewey help them find a way to pay for one of his functions.
