Sweden International Andreas Granqvist initally joined on loan in January of 2007; however, after just one substitue appearance under former manager Paul Jewell, to the surprise of many, Chris Hutchings made the giant central defender his first summer signing.

The Latics beat off reputed interest from European giants Bayern Munchen and Liverpool and have been rewarded with the big man's form at the start of the 2007-2008 season so far.

Andreas will be hoping his club form will improve his credentials with the national team as the Swedes prepare for the Euro 2008 championships in Austria and Switzerland.
